About Us
History
Eckert’s Greenhouse and Perennials was started in 1957 by Jim and Beatrice Eckert in Royal Oak, Michigan. In 1959 Eckert’s moved to Sterling Heights, where we proudly celebrated our 50-year anniversary in 2007. Over the years the business has seen many changes, both in plant varieties and in technological innovations. The business is now run by the second generation of Eckert’s: Karl is the “King” of annuals, while Jim heads up the perennials.

Going green with fiber pots and beneficial bugs.
Eckert’s is one of the first greenhouses in southeast Michigan to plant the majority of our annual and perennial plants (Over 170,000 pots) in biodegradable containers. By 2009 we hope to have all of our plants in recyclable fiber containers. We were one of the last greenhouses to give in to plastic containers, and now we are among the first to return to our “roots” by converting back to biodegradable ones. While these fiber pots are more expensive than plastic, we believe it’s worth it. The pots are made of 100% recycled paper.
Another way we are going green is by our use of beneficial bugs. To lower the need for chemical pesticides we are now using beneficial bugs to control many pests.
